What is the difference between FLE and FLM?

FLE (French as a foreign language) is for non-French speakers who want to learn or improve their French — to settle in France, pass an interview, work in a French company, obtain citizenship or renew a residence permit. FLM (French as a native language) is for native French speakers who want to sharpen their written and spoken command of the language — spelling, grammar, professional writing, role-specific writing. They are two very different audiences and pedagogies.

What CEFR level do I need to start a French course?

No prerequisite for FLE: we train complete beginners (A1) through to advanced learners (C2). Before you start, we run a free placement test — written and oral — to pinpoint your level, identify your strengths and gaps, and calibrate the pathway accordingly. For FLM, training is calibrated around your real goals (professional writing, spelling, public speaking, etc.), without a CEFR level.

Which FLE certifications can I take?

Are French courses eligible for CPF funding?

Yes, our French courses (both FLE and FLM) are CPF-eligible when paired with a recognised certification (TEF, TEF Canada, TEF IRN, DELF, Le Robert). Since the decree of 26 February 2026, CPF funding for language training is capped at €1,500 with a mandatory personal contribution of €150. Your training can also be funded by your OPCO, your company's skills development plan, FNE-Formation, AGEFICE or FIF-PL depending on your situation. Our team handles the funding application with you.

Which certification should I choose for naturalisation or a residence permit?

For French naturalisation or a long-term residence permit process (long-stay resident card, permanent resident card), the required certification is the TEF IRN (Integration, Residence, Nationality). The required level is B1 oral for naturalisation since the law of 26 January 2024. Linguaphone is an accredited centre for the TEF IRN exam in Mulhouse and supports each candidate with dedicated preparation: mock exam, targeted listening and oral expression training, and exam session registration.
